| BIKE: | 1986 F1 |
| OWNER: | Dave Russell |
| LOCATION: | California |
| MILEAGE: | 13,400 (KM) |
| ENGINE: | The engine has been upgraded to Ducati Laguna Seca/Montjuich specifications with high-performance camshafts, larger 40mm Dellorto carbs, matched and ported intake manifolds and cylinder heads. Engine breathing is further assisted with a reverse cone megaphone exhaust. |
| CHASSIS: | The paint on the frame and bodywork, including fuel tank, fairing upper and lower, tail section, are all original OEM and unrestored. The suspension has been upgraded with a period-correct Verlicchi aluminum swingarm and Penske remote-resevoir shock that offers adjustments for high- and low-speed compression damping, rebound dampling, spring preload and independent ride height. |
| OTHER: | The heavy original 16-inch front and 18-inch rear wheels have been upgraded to period-correct magnesium wheels. The front wheel is from a Ducati Corse bike, the rear wheel is NOS. These wheels allow the latest tire technology to be used, further enhancing the legendary nimble yet stable handling characteristic of the Ducati F1. |
| SIGNIFICANCE: | Finally, Why do I own this bike? I own it for two reasons. First, from the first moment I laid eyes on a Ducati F1, I wanted it. It was obviously designed for the single purpose of winning races. Raw, light and fast, yet gorgeous at the same time, the Ducati F1 was probably the freshest approach to going fast up until that time. I raced an F1 during the early 1990's, finishing second overall in AHRMA's BoTT-F2 class in 1993. So when this nice example became available years later, buying it and upgradng it to the level it is today was a simple decision. Second, it demonstrates the rich heritage of the Ducati Superbike 1098 Tricoplore. |
