| SIGNIFICANCE: | I bought the bike in 2004. It was stock except for a set of Kennys R&D slip-ons. It was love at first sight. My biggest challenge was explaining to my wife why my Ducati Supersport had a new friend next to it in the garage. It seems when you buy a Ducati you enter into a new world of experiences of blending personal relationships with your machine. Your senses are heightened and your excitement level is increased. The bike serves as a catalyst of taking your involvement with the human race to another level. I even encourage my family to participate with my daughter managing my Ducati website and taking or processing the many pictures associated with it. I formed the local Ducati Club in Sacramento California, better known as DOGS and I serve as the President of the group. I promote two private track days a year and currently I\'m working with Keith Code to bring his school to our area on Oct 16th. I see my Ducati 916 from several different perspectives. First, from a personal one. It is a creation of sorts, borne out of a high level interest to the nameplate that caught my attention in the late 70s. It seems every part or modification I make to the bike symbolizes not only the respect I have for the 916 specifically, but what that modification will do for me in terms of performance and appearance. Adding performance and appearance modifications is acceptable behavior, doing it derives a great degree of satisfaction, however,it is not a never ending story. I believe my bike embodies the respect the bike is due without sending it over the top as an example of a project you simply throw money at. I can\'t afford to do that. Many of my modifications were from the used parts market, I love searching for right deal and the right price. This proves to me it can be done by most anyone, patience is the key. Lastly, I would like to say my goal in upgrading my bike is not only described above, but ultimately it represents my vision of the legendary 916 in a balanced format. I love promoting Ducati related events and having a bike that is admired by others enhances this goal. Its not about money, this is about pride and respect for those who started the company and who continue to work hard at making it successfull. What do I like about my bike compared to others? I believe I have eliminated any hint one side looks better than the other. I study how each piece influences the overall balance of the bike and how that piece appears from any angle. The overall perspective is my goal. |
