| SIGNIFICANCE: | The modifications to this bike foreshadow some of the improvements which would be seen in the highly successful 1098 series, retaining the classic world-wide appeal of the 996. Changes emphasize weight reduction, increased engine performance across a wide power band, and optimal chassis/suspension function to make this a competitive machine on par with the newest superbikes. |
