SIGNIFICANCE:I wanted a 2001 Ducati 996S from the moment I saw it, had to have it. I bought my first 2001 996S a couple of weeks after the International Bike Show. I totaled it in the Ortega Canyons in Sal Cal in the fall of 2003. The Story... in short: I was in a corner and out of the corner of my eye a brownish gray animal darted out and hit my front wheel - I was hit by a coyote of all things. It was running across the road. Complete heart ache. What to do? I wanted something with a little more power, 996SPS was on my radar, but I still wanted an 01 996S. I found the perfect solution in Florida @ Palm Beach Ducati - a 2001 996S w/ an SPS spec. motor.  This was their show bike that they would display at events they attended. And what it did not have on it I have put on it: Marchesini: Magnesium 5-spoke Wheels, 54mm exhaust, up graded brakes. . . etc. etc.. What a dream bike I have, will never part with it.
